Match Report by Coach Ste Young
Back in September, the Sharks opened the season with a 4–1 defeat to Horwich St Mary’s. It wasn’t our day, but it gave us plenty to learn from and plenty to aim for. 💪
Fast-forward to this morning’s home game, and that early-season setback became our motivation. From the first whistle, the Sharks were switched on — pressing high, moving the ball quickly, and winning battles all over the pitch. The passing was sharp, the teamwork was electric, and confidence grew with every attack. ⚡🦈
Second-place Winton Wanderers Sharks came into the game aiming to extend their unbeaten run to six matches, facing a Horwich St Mary’s Lionesses side sitting mid-table.
First Half
The Sharks made a dream start. Just six minutes in, MJ threaded a perfect pass to Sienna on the wing. Splitting the defence, Sienna lifted the ball over the keeper and into the top corner. 1–0.
Minutes later, a misplaced pass from the Lionesses’ goalkeeper fell kindly to Charlotte, who calmly slotted the ball home. 2–0.
Relentless pressure from the Sharks continued to trouble the Lionesses’ defence. MJ once again combined superbly with Sienna, whose cross-turned-shot found the back of the net for her second of the game. 3–0.
Dominating possession, the Sharks kept the tempo high. The ball eventually found Scarlette in space; she drove between the centre-backs and delicately chipped the keeper. 4–0. Half-time.
Second Half
The Sharks restarted exactly where they left off. Straight from kick-off, Charlotte stormed forward and smashed the ball past the Lionesses’ keeper. 5–0.
Charlotte soon completed her hat-trick, taking on the defence and finishing confidently. 6–0.
The Sharks’ attacking flow didn’t stop there. Georgia joined the scoresheet, finishing a well-worked move with accuracy. 7–0.
Another slick passing sequence found Charlotte in space once more, and she curled the ball beautifully around the keeper for her fourth. 8–0.
A positional switch then saw Sharks goalkeeper Millie moved into midfield—and she made an instant impact. A majestic through-ball sent Sienna racing clear to hammer home and complete her hat-trick. 9–0.
Moments later, Millie again picked out Sienna, who coolly slotted in for her fourth of the match. 10–0.
Relentless pressure forced another defensive error from the Lionesses, allowing Scarlette to pounce and slide in her second. 11–0.
The Sharks finished the match in style. Our right-back Emma, temporarily pushed forward, collected the ball just past halfway, surged into the box, and with the full team cheering jer on, calmly scored her first goal of the season. 12–0.
Player of the Game
Normally we highlight three standout performers, but today, that was impossible.
Every single Shark, in every position, played their part in an outstanding team performance.
Today’s Player of the Game goes to… the entire Sharks team!
