Sharks 2-2 Westbury
A cold rainy morning for this one (nothing new) which sees the Sharks looking to add another win to their tally, after previously winning 5-0 away at Roach.
The game started in an end to end fashion before finding balance which seen the sharks gain some control for a spell of corners which narrowly failed to give us an early lead. Unfortunately with the away sides first attack they were able to score the opener just before half time.
It seemed like the weather was playing a big part in this game with the girls looking a shadow of themselves from 7 days prior but they were still trying to find a breakthrough against a tough Westbury defence.
Not long into the second half and the Westbury attackers find themselves clean through from a counter attack to give themselves a 2-0 lead…..
The coaches knew something had to alter so we seen a formation change to a 3-5-2 from a 4-4-2 to overload the midfield, it was a risk but will it be the right one?
Going into the last 10minutes of the game it was like a switch flicked in the heads of the girls and they believed in themselves again!
A fantastic run from Makalya all the way from the half way line to the back of the net charging through anyone in her way. 2-1! Game on!
The sharks started to put fear into the opposition although Westbury were unable to finish some well worked counter attack themselves as rhe final whistle approched they was now on the back foot, with seconds to go pressure from Sienna has won the team a corner in the last attack of the game….
The ball is crossed to the edge of the box where Beau picks up the ball to slide it to Sienna……. 2-2!!!
A great finish from Sienna into the side netting to salvage the Sharks a point from being 2-0 down up until the last 10 minutes of the game, showing great character and fighting spirit.
This sharks side have never recovered from losing positions so the coaches feel like this was a massive step in the right direction to help give the team belief in future fixtures.
Emma Nolan picked up girl of the game with a fantastic defensive display at RB 🥇
